Franchise Loan Payment Calculator

A franchise loan's monthly payment is the number that has to fit inside your unit's cash flow every month for years. Enter the amount to finance, your down payment, a rate, and a term to see the payment, the total interest, and how the balance draws down over time.

Every fixed-rate loan payment is the same formula: it spreads the amount you borrow, plus interest, evenly across the number of months in the term. The lever that matters most for a franchise buyer is the term. A longer term shrinks the monthly payment but raises the total interest you pay; a shorter term does the reverse. The rate and the down payment move the payment too, but the term is where cash flow and total cost pull against each other.

How the monthly payment is calculated

The loan principal is your total amount to finance minus the down payment. The tool applies the standard amortization formula to that principal at your monthly rate (the APR divided by twelve) over the term in months. At a zero percent rate it simply divides the principal by the number of payments. The result is the level monthly payment that pays the loan to zero by the end of the term.

What a realistic franchise loan looks like in 2026

The SBA 7(a) loan is the standard vehicle for most franchise acquisitions. As of mid-2026, all-in 7(a) rates commonly ran from about 9 percent for larger, strong-credit loans up to roughly 13 percent for smaller or higher-risk ones, with fixed rates typically a little above variable. Terms run up to 10 years for a business or franchise acquisition, and up to 25 years when commercial real estate is part of the deal. The 10 percent down payment default here reflects the SBA's current minimum equity injection; ourdown payment calculator shows how that injection changes across loan programs.

The payment is not the whole picture

Two cautions before you lean on any single monthly number. First, a variable-rate 7(a) loan re-prices as the Prime rate moves, so budget a cushion above the payment this tool shows at today's rate. Second, the payment is not your only obligation: royalties, an ad fund, rent, and payroll all come out of the same monthly cash flow. To check that the whole package is survivable, size the total investment your cash can support with theaffordability calculator and read our guide to SBA loans for a franchise.
