Costa Coffee Franchise Availability in the US, 2026

As of October 14, 2026, Costa Coffee publishes no US franchise terms: its US partnering page lists “Franchise” among its offerings with no fee, investment range, application or FDD, and searches of Minnesota’s franchise registry and California’s DFPI registry that day found no Costa Coffee filing. The 2025 reports describe a handful of Atlanta shops, an HMSHost-operated Seattle-Tacoma International Airport unit and Smart Cafe machines in the US.

Does Costa Coffee franchise in the US?

As of October 14, 2026, Costa’s US partnering page publishes no US franchise terms. It lists “Franchise” among a wide range of offerings, next to Smart Cafe, kiosks and pop-ups, counter-top espresso machines, brew bars, cold brew and coffee-only solutions. The page says “Costa is in 50 global markets” and lists 4000+ retail stores in 30 markets.

What it does not do is say where franchising is available, what it costs, or how to apply, and Costa’s US partner FAQ cited here describes only a Smart Cafe contact route (877-77-COSTA) and a typical requirement of locations that will sell at least 40 cups per day. The live partnering and partner-FAQ pages were checked October 14, 2026.

What Costa’s US footprint looks like

Two named reports put Costa’s US retail presence at a handful of shops. Restaurant Business (Jonathan Maze, August 15, 2025) reported that Costa had opened five locations in the Atlanta area and that “Costa has no immediate plans to join the rush of operators into the U.S. coffee shop business.” Foodservice Equipment & Supplies (Amanda Baltazar, September 2, 2025) reported six US coffee shops: five in Atlanta and one inside Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Port of Seattle says “Costa Coffee at SEA is operated by global restaurateur HMSHost,” and Foodservice Equipment & Supplies says the same. The sources cited here do not say who operates the five Atlanta shops.

Why the US plan centers on a machine

Both reports describe a US strategy built around the Smart Cafe, a self-serve machine. Restaurant Business says it is targeted at hospitals, college campuses, hotels and convenience stores, and that the host location shares revenue with Costa while keeping the machine clean and supplying milk. Foodservice Equipment & Supplies reports 250 Smart Cafes in the US in September 2025, in Florida, Georgia and Texas, and Restaurant Business puts the US count at about 350 in August 2025.

Foodservice Equipment & Supplies also states the line that matters most to a would-be franchisee: Costa “is not planning to open any more retail stores in the U.S.” That is a statement about retail stores from a September 2025 trade report, not a current statement from Costa about franchising.

Who owns Costa, and what that has to do with a US franchise

Coca-Cola’s fiscal 2018 Form 10-K, filed February 21, 2019, states: “On January 3, 2019, the Company acquired Costa in exchange for $4.9 billion of cash.” Global Coffee Report (February 11, 2026) says Coca-Cola had tried to sell the asset in 2025 and then decided to keep it: it quotes Coca-Cola’s chief financial officer, John Murphy, telling Bloomberg the company has “decided to continue to have Costa 100 per cent owned inside [its] portfolio,” while Costa’s Chinese operations remain under review.

That ownership report does not announce a US franchise program.

What the available cost evidence shows

As of October 14, 2026, Costa’s US partnering page publishes no franchise fee, investment range or FDD. Minnesota’s CARDS search for “Costa” that day returned 139 records, all for Costa Oil and Costa Vida entities, with no Costa Coffee record. California’s DFPI exact-name search for “Costa Coffee” on the same date returned “SHOWING NO RESULTS”. Neither search supplied a Costa Coffee filing, but these results do not establish nationwide unavailability. Request a current US FDD directly from Costa before relying on any cost figure.
