Black Rock kept the company-owned model through its IPO. Its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reports 181 locations across seven states as of December 31, 2025 and describes its stores as 100% company-operated, and the same profile says the company is working toward a target of 1,000 stores over the next nine years.

Its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q reports 10 net new stores opened in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, bringing its total store count to 200.

What Black Rock is today: a public, company-owned chain

In September 2025, Black Rock Coffee Bar, Inc. went public on the Nasdaq under the ticker BRCB, raising about $294 million according to Restaurant Dive’s coverage of the offering. Black Rock’s 10-K describes its stores as 100% company-operated, which means it builds, owns, and operates them rather than collecting franchise fees and royalties from independent owners.

For a would-be franchisee, the takeaway is simple: as of October 14, 2026, Black Rock’s FAQ says it does not currently offer franchise opportunities, and its latest annual filing describes a 100% company-operated store base. Scooter’s Item 6 allows the national marketing contribution to increase to 4% of Net Sales with 60 days’ written notice; its combined marketing and advertising expense ceiling is 6% of Net Sales. Ellianos’ WBO may increase to 3% of Net Sales, with an increase of no more than 0.5% in any 12-month period. The WBO can be allocated among brand, national and regional advertising funds and local marketing; it is not a separate charge on top of each of those allocations.

Ellianos’ Item 7 totals exclude real estate costs. Its investment page, checked September 29, 2026, showed $803,450 to $1,427,400 excluding real estate. That site figure differs from the March 17, 2026 FDD; the FDD governs the figures used here.

Two brands people ask about that are not open right now

7 Brew: As of October 14, 2026, its support page states that it is not accepting new franchise applications or expressions of interest. Its About page, verified September 29, 2026, cited over 700 stands across 38 states in its Growth paragraph, while the page header showed 800+ stands on that date. Its FDD Item 20 reported 602 stands at the end of 2025. These counts differ by date and page and should not be treated as interchangeable. The About page describes a franchised model with multi-unit franchisee organizations; the support page says franchising information is published annually in its FDD.

Dutch Bros: As of October 14, 2026, its support page says it no longer offers the option to franchise. Its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K states: “Since 2017, our focus has been a company-operated strategy with all operators recruited from within our organization.” Its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q reports 1,225 shops as of June 30, 2026: 888 company-operated and 337 franchised. The 10-K says existing franchise partners continue to open new shops; those legacy partners are distinct from new applicants.
