Loading and unloading your own vehicle every market day? The real trade-off is when you carry the weight. Prefilled plates and ingots win on transport volume, a slim plate stacks flat, but you lift the entire rated weight every leg, every trip. Empty bags flip that: folded, a bag weighs almost nothing, but you need a fill source, sand or a tap, at every setup.

If you’re at the same lot every week and have hose access, empty water bags win: your transport weight stays near zero. Bouncing between sites without guaranteed water, prefilled plates make more sense despite the fixed carry weight. Got a helper or a trailer? Then just default to whichever product hits your organizer’s exact number with the least hassle.

What actually keeps a tent standing, and what doesn’t

Weight resists a leg sliding or lifting off the pavement. It does not stop the frame from bending or racking in a real gust, a separate failure mode. Common questions

How much weight do I actually need per leg?

There is no single number. Real market rules found for this guide require 20, 24, and 40 pounds per leg respectively, and the fill-material rules vary too. Check your own market's vendor handbook before buying, and treat 40 lbs per leg as a reasonable floor if your organizer hasn't stated a number.

Can I just use cement blocks or cinder blocks I already have?
